We are a group of climbers, of all ages and abilities, who as often as possible head out of south london towards adventure.
We are a small club, with around 30 active members who have inevitably become friends.
Trips typically cover all disciplines, including bouldering, sport, trad, mountaineering and winter.
We aren’t qualified instructors and so generally ask that new members are able to belay and lead - but collectively the club is hugely knowledgeable and willing to pass this on!
We have climbers active in the club at sport grades 5a to 7a, trad from S to E2 and beyond. We are a multigenerational club with members ranging in age from 18 year old team-kids to 65 year old trad-dads!
Importantly, we are a low admin club! Trips are generally organised by members over whatsapp and/or at monthly meetings at the Effra Social. These are mostly adhoc, but with annual highlights such as:
The club is what you want it to be - not enough bouldering for you? Organise a trip and people will come!
We regularly attend Substation every Tuesday from 7pm where you'll hopefully find us donning our BCC T'shirts. Come say hi.
We also hold a meeting, 8pm on the first Wednesday of every month. We get to meet new members, hear about past trips, plan future trips and vote on Photo of the Month.
For new members and for those new to Trad without a lot of experience we organise an Intro to Trad trip at the start of the year as the weather starts to improve.
Trips to Fontainebleau are organised where we sample a great variety of french cheese. We also climb some boulders.
During the summer period regular weekend and long weekend trips are planned by members. There is often a longer week long Summer Alps trip organised.
Throughout the summer we vist, Wales (North and South), Lake District, The Peaks, Roaches, Portland, Lundi Island and more local Harrison Rocks.
The summer Alps trip takes place in Ecrins national park. Usually 1-2 weeks members can expect to be leading multi-pitch sport climbs or hiking up to glaciers such as Pelvoux.
We're all weather climbers, or at least some us are. If a bit of Snow and Ice tickles your fancy, then its been known for Trips to Scotland and the Alps to take place.
All that climbing isn't in vain, its to win prizes, yes prizes at the xmas meal.
